Cavern Club
The Cavern Club is reopening in two weeks as the new Hoods and Capers Bar. This time, the bar will be run by young adults, all in their twenties.
Because of issues with management, the Cavern Club closed quietly in November. Mike Cunningham, the former manager, said he thought it would be better to close rather than find new staff.
Zach Stewart, a 23-year-old Greencastle resident, is re-opening the bar with his friend from Chicago, Ryan Gullet. Though not a DePauw student, Stewart is familiar with the DePauw campus. He and Gullet used to bartend at the Cavern Club, but when it closed, they decided to try to run it themselves.

Stewart said the process has been slightly complicated.
"It took a lot longer to get stuff going. We wanted to open last month, but we hit a lot of road blocks," he said.
Stewart said the theme was going to be very different than the last Beatles-oriented Cavern Club.

"Hoods and Capers is going to be an interactive, fun-themed Speak Easy, like from the 1920s," Stewart said. "We don't want it to be a typical, plain sports bar like everywhere else. It's a good alternative for the young adults of DePauw. No one caters to the university, and we want to hook them up."
There will be live music and nationally touring bands at least once a month.
Stewart and Gullet said they went to hundreds of bars across the country, looking for the perfect idea for Hoods and Capers.

"It's Chicago-themed," Stewart said. "We'll be having Chicago food with delivery till 3 a.m,, and we'll also have carry out. For the first couple days, we'll mainly be doing appetizers, though."
Senior Will Cath, who is helping his friends with the re-opening, said the space hasn't always been used well.
"It's been between many different businesses, like Hathaways, Sugar Moon and Cavern Club. It hasn't been very well-run in the last 10-15 years, but hopefully my buddies can turn it around," Cath said. He also plans to help bartend.
