The historic St John's Market opened in 1822
and was the first covered general food market in Great Britain. The current
St John's market is based in St John's precinct in the city centre and was
opened to the public by the Queen in April 1971
St Johns market is situated in the heart of Liverpool city centre and is a
firm favourite for shoppers who have been loyal customers for years,
attracted by the quality produce available at reasonable prices. Word has
spread about this excellent market, and St Johns regularly welcomes coach
loads of bargain hunters from Manchester and the Isle of Man.
Many of the stalls are real family affairs and have been in
the market for many years, from generation to generation, making this market
a real gem. One popular fish stall has been trading for over three
generations and base their success on fresh, quality produce. The 36 year
success of one butcher says "it is down to the strong, loyal customer
foundation who seeks fresh, affordable meat daily".
Liverpool is a multi-cultural society, and this diversity
is reflected in St Johns Market by the variety of products which can be
found.
