WHAT'S IN A NAME?

The name Tyrannosaurus rex means "king tyrant lizard". And this most famous of all the dinosaurs certainly was!

SMILE!

Tyrannosaurus rex was a Carnivore, a meat-eater, and had 50 razor sharp teeth for ripping into flesh. Each of these teeth could be as long as 18cm (7in).

NUTS AND BOLTS

Because muscles are soft flesh, they don't fossilise, however Scientists can study the marks left on bones to see where muscles were once attached by comparing the findings to bones of modern- day animals

Scientists can show that the Tyrannosaurus rex had extremely strong and powerful muscles in both its legs and jaw. It also had a thick, tough scaly skin similar to that of modern-day reptiles, but unlike them it walked around on two legs.

OUT AND ABOUT

Unlike modern-day lions which hunt in packs, Tyrannosaurus rex hunted and lived alone. Scientists have concluded this because fossil remains of the Tyrannosaurus rex are always found singly and never in groups.

FROM HEAD...

The massive head, or strong tail of the Tyrannosaurus rex would be used to deliver a crushing blow to its victims, which would then be pinned down by its claws. It's huge size was matched by a huge appetite, possibly having to eats it's own weight in meat every week.

...TO TAIL

By studying other types of fossils, scientists believe that the Tyrannosaurus rex walked with its tail in the air. This is because fossil remains of the Tyrannosaurus rex's movements only show footprints and no trail left by it's tail.
