Due to extensive knowledge in the control of intelligent lighting the
lighting division at Architen Landrell was asked to assist on a bridge
development in the heart of Liverpool’s dockside area. The bridge,
linking offices and a retail area, was envisaged as an architectural
statement to juxtapose with the industrial buildings surrounding it.
Following many projects that Lighting Designer Graham Festenstein has completed all over Liverpool, he was tasked to illuminate this footbridge making it interactive and fun within the whole scheme of Liverpool’s lighting ethos. The lighting, which was designed by Graham and installed by W T Jenkins, was able to be programmed to create a range of dynamic and interactive effects. Located at either end of the bridge are two proximity sensors allowing for the installation to react to the public as they walk its length. Architen Landrell’s lighting division was employed as the technical co-ordinator for the project and commissioned to design, supply and program the lighting control system. Architen Landrell was approached to oversee the work due to their extensive experience of using the Pharos LPC advanced controllers - we were recommended as the best people to do the job! Although the project required minimal time and input from Architen, it was by no means straight forward. The control box is located underneath the bridge and only accessible by boat. As a result the entire process had to be done from the water! No one can deny that the bridge is an eye-catching addition to the Liverpool dockside made into a truly iconic feature by the interactive lighting. |
